Mark McCarthy is Chief Credit Officer at RMK Maritime.

Mark has spent over 30 years working in a variety of roles in ship finance and experienced several industry cycles. He has been involved in total loan and lease exposures of $5 billion on around 500 vessels.

At RMK, Mark uses his breadth of experience to focus on first-mortgage debt and leasing, while also advising on secondary debt trades and financial restructuring.

Before joining RMK, Mark was Head of Shipping at Santander Bank UK. In 2008, Santander acquired Alliance & Leicester Bank which Mark had joined in 2002 as Head of Shipping, where he built up a $3.5 billion shipping portfolio over a five-year period. For the six years prior, Mark worked as a ship-finance consultant at a specialist advisory firm and later with Seascope Capital, a division of Braemar Seascope. In the early 1990’s, Mark took over responsibility for the ship lending book at the Berliner Bank’s London branch.

Mark began his career at RBS, which became one of the world’s largest shipping banks.
